Sunset Rock Trail

Today we went for a hike on Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain (it's really more of a ridge than a mountain but we won't quarrel with the geographers) is only about 10 minutes from our house. It was the scene of a major battle during the Civil War and there are old encampments and Civil War paraphenalia scattered about on the mountain. Major parts of the mountain (including the entire trail we were on today) are preserved as part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

We chose the Sunset Rock Trail - a 4 mile up and down trek. It was our first time hiking on Lookout but it won't be our last! The trail was great - lots of interesting trees and plants as well as the coolest rock formations. And the views from the top were amazing!

Kirk carried Sam in the Baby Bjorn and had to do some tricky moves to get up and down the trail. Crawling under a tree with a baby strapped to your chest is easier said than done! I could barely get myself under the tree so I don't know how Kirk did it!

Again, Rosco was a daredevil and went right out to the edge of the cliff. He was nice enough to pose for a picture with mom though. He wasn't happy about it but he humors me from time to time.
