We took Sam out today for her first hike. We went out to the Tennessee River Gorge (about 20 minutes from our house) and went on the Pot Point Loop Trail. It's about 4 miles long with a significant climb on the way out and tracks the Tennessee River on the way back in. It was our first time on this trail and we really liked it. Sam loves being in the Baby Bjorn and slept the entire hike. Rosco loves hikes - he runs out in front of us and sniffs around then runs back to make sure that we're coming his way. He wags his tail the whole time and is so excited! He especially loved swimming at the end of the trial. We got him in the river and he chased some sticks for us. Nothing better in Rosco's mind then getting out in the woods, sniffing some animal trails, and finishing up with a swim!

Only downside of the hike was the bugs, on the way back we were only about 20 feet from the river most of the time so there was quite a bit of standing water. Standing water in Tennessee in September is bad news! Fret not though, Sam came away unscathed.

Kirk did a great job of keeping the mosquitos off of her (or killing them while they were in the process of trying to bite her!) The rest of us were not so lucky though. Kirk and I had chigger bites all around both ankles and Kirk also had chigger bites where the Baby Bjorn pressed against his chest. Poor Rosco got it the worst though, the chiggers attacked pretty much his whole body. He recovered faster than Kirk and I though; he itched for 2-3 days while we itched for 2-3 weeks! It had been years since I had been attacked by chiggers and I hope it is another 20 years before it happens again!
